Councillors Liam Quinn and Noel Cribbin with Deputy Damien English at the FG convention in Daingean
Outgoing councillors Noel Cribbin and Liam Quinn were proposed and selected at the FG selection convention in Daingean on Monday night before a large attendance.
The convention was chaired by Meath TD Damien English.,
Both councillors gave their views on the present term with Cllr Cribbin giving details of his work load, the clubs and organisations he is involved with in Edenderry and the amount of positive projects going on at the moment.
These include phase 1 of new Inner Relief road which is just completed with phase 2 ready to start.
Cllr Cribbin also outlined the huge potential of the Derrygreenagh Business Park, a 3,000 acre site on the edge of the motorway, 50 minutes from Dublin with six wind farms and solar farms and a gas fired power station to be built on this site,
“I have been calling for north Offaly to be designated a green energy eub and thankfully this seems to be happening as BNM are been more proactive with the site,” saidCllr Cribbin.
He added; “There is also a very positive report by Siemens on the Rhode Energy Park and its huge potential as a site for big energy plants and data centres.”
Cllr Cribbin also outlined his proposal to partner with BNM proposed new Ballydermot Wind Farm and for an additional wind turbine to be owned by the community .
“At the same time a group in West Offaly are proposing a 500 acres solar darm on BNM land also on a community basis and we have joined forces to create a new group, Offaly Community Energy,” he outlined.
This new group will work alongside the council, Oireachtas members, councillors and community activists to explore opportunities for community energy projects for the benefits of all those living in Offaly.
Cllr Cribbin outlined that he has recently taken up the position of Chairman of Edenderry Swimming Pool and is working very closely with the hard working pool committee and the council's Director of Services for the Edenderry area Sharon Kennedy to deliver the much awaited new swimming pool for Edenderry and north Offaly.
Cllr Quinn outlined all the improvements works taking place in Rhode, Daingean and Croghan.
He said he looks forward to great improvement works to the hall in Daingean.
Cllr Quinn spoke about his disappointment with the poor reward that the Government is getting for all the great work they are doing in all sectors including housing, education, Covid, and the response to the war in Ukraine.
