ALL Argos stores in the republic of Ireland including the Tullamore store closed on Saturday June 24.

In addition all of its online operations in the republic have ceased. Its home delivery service stopped on March 22.

Argos said the reason for closing all of its stores was because it felt the investment needed to modernise and develop its business in the republic was not viable. Argos in Northern Ireland and UK are not affected by the closures.

Customers received an email informing them that all of its stores in the republic are now permanently closed.

''Although customers can no longer visit us in-store, you can still contact us if you need help with a product you have purchased,'' the email stated.

It goes on to give details of aftersales, returns, refunds and exchanges policy including how to contact them.

It asked people to note that Argos is unable to process refunds, returns or exchanges for products purchased in the Republic of Ireland in its UK stores including in Northern Ireland.''

Argos has been in Ireland for the last 25 years and had 34 stores in the republic. 580 jobs have been lost as a result of the closures.

Argos in Tullamore was located in the Tullamore Retail Park at Cloncollig.

The email to customers finished by saying: ''We'd like to thank all of our customers, colleagues and communities for supporting Argos in the Republic or Ireland for over 25 years. ''
