An Offaly councillor has called on motorists to resect disabled parking spaces

Independent councillor, Sean O' Brien, has called on motorists to respect disabled parking spaces by not parking in them or parking in front of them.

"This week is Disability Awareness week and it is an opportunity for people with disabilities to outline their needs.    The Council have recently done great work with painting all of the disabled parking spaces with a deep blue to make it clear what they are for.    All too often motorists park in these spaces or park in front of them.

“This is very frustrating  for a person with a disability who is trying to get a parking space.    Disabled parking  spaces are larger than the usual parking  space so as to allow a person space to get out of the car and also take out a wheelchair or other mobility equipment.    I am appealing to motorists not to park in parking spaces designated as disabled parking," outlined Cllr O' Brien.
