SHS students who took part in the seminar at Lough Boora
Three Sacred Heart Schoool Tullamore TY students along with their teachers Ms Meleady and Ms Burke recently represented the school at a workshop in Lough Boora. The workshop was on Nature Based Solutions to Climate Change and was hosted by Offaly County Council.
NBS EduWorld is a European Union funded project. The project aims to nurture a Nature-based Solution (NbS) literate, inclusive and sustainable society by building connections between NbS professionals and education providers. The project will showcase NbS related education initiatives in three municipalities – Almada (Portugal), Paris (France) and Offaly (Ireland).
During the workshop our students were able to explore the success factors, roadblocks and replicability potential of the Just Transition education initiatives currently in place. They also discussed potential means for partnership among the participants, in a way that strengthens local collaborations.
The ultimate vision of the initiative is to help communities become more prepared, cohesive, and participatory in engaging with nature and to help them to use the benefits of nature to solve local and global challenges and improve public health and wellbeing. We were very proud to play a part in this initiative and look forward to using what we learned to further educate our school community.
