Judge tells Tullamore woman her conditions of bail include 'shutting her gob'

Tullamore Court House

Judge tells witness who began to clap ''we are not Britain's Got Talent''

A woman, when charged, answered, "I had the axe. Sure I pleaded to it," after she was cautioned, last week's Tullamore district court heard.

Garda Conor Shields was giving evidence in the case of Carina O'Sullivan (52), of 27, Cloncollig Est, Tullamore, who was charged with producing an axe in the course of a dispute on May 3, 2022.

Gardai were objecting to bail on the grounds that Ms O'Sullivan had been in breach of two of the bail conditions imposed on her by the court on May 4, 2022. The breaches occurred on January 1, 2023.

Ms O'Sullivan is charged with damaging the front window pane of a house and displacing it belonging to Daniel Hickey, and with assaulting Mr Hickey on July 7, 2021 and assaulting Rebecca Power on January 12, 2021.

Her bail conditions include having no contact with Daniel Hickey and Rebecca Power.

Kelle Power was in court to give evidence. She lives next door to Carina O'Sullivan.

In the witness stand she said Carina O'Sullivan's daughter Shannon, had claimed that Ms Power's nephew Brandon, had tried to run her over in his car. She also claimed that Carina O'Sullivan had shouted ''come out and fight, you are nothing but window warriors. She keeps getting away with it,'' said Ms Power.

Solicitor Donal Farrelly put it to Ms Power that Carina O' Sullivan had been living 8 years at the above address while she had been there for just two years.

Ms Power claimed the reason she got the house was because the previous owner had moved out due to Carina O'Sullivan. Judge Andrew Cody advised Ms Power to confine herself to the breaches of bail.

Solicitor Donal Farrelly put it to Ms Power that she herself had been in court for an offence.

Ms Power agreed that she had. He also put it to her that her father is bound over to the peace. Again Ms Power said yes.

Mr Farrelly said that Ms Power and her family had been calling Carina O'Sullivan names on tiktok. Ms Power said it wasn't on her tiktok account. Donal Farrelly told the judge that Carina O'Sullivan had spent time in a mental hospital.

Garda Shields said 40 incidents had been reported to the Gardai. He said there were various tiktok accounts, most in relation to incidents at Cloncollig. He said he hadn't been able to verify if they were about Carina O'Sullivan. He said it would suggest they are about her but do not name her.

Carina O'Sullivan said this has been going on for some months. She admitted calling them window warriors and to come out and fight. She said she had felt a panic attack coming on.

Judge Andrew Cody reminded Ms O'Sullivan that she had signed a bail bond and was released on bail. He told her she had 10 or 11 charges pending and she could do time in prison.

''It means shutting your gob,'' he said. He remarked that Ms Power was ''pretty gobby herself''.

He said he was not going to revoke bail, but if there were any more incidents he would. He put the case back to March 7 for finalisation. There should be no breaches and it's up to everybody to keep the temperature down, he said.

Kelle Power began to clap as Carina O'Sullivan was granted bail, commenting that she had given a great performance. Judge Cody told her there was to be no clapping in court. ''We are not Britain's Got Talent'' he said. He told her if she did that again he would give her 7 days in prison.

Ms Power apologised saying ''sorry your honour. We have been through an awful lot.''
