Shane Lowry well placed after first round of Farmers insurance Open

Offaly man is playing his first tournament of the season on the PGA Tour

Shane Lowry is well placed after his opening round at the Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour.

The Offaly golfer shot an opening round of 3 under par on the North Course which saw him finish the opening round in a tie for 15th place.

Lowry was level par to the turn but dropped a shot on the tenth hole to drop to 1 over par. However he finished the round strongly with birdies on the 11th, 12th, 14th and 17th to move into the top 20. 

Tony Finau leads on 7 under par with Ted Potter and Ryan Palmer a shot further back. 

Seamus Power is also on 3 under with Padraig Harrington on level par after his opening round.

Lowry is back in action at 6.40pm this evening Irish time.
