Frank Lampard could not hide his glee after league leaders Coventry made it back-to-back wins with a 2-1 victory over Millwall.
Former Lions winger Romain Esse opened the scoring against his old side before they were pegged back by Mihailo Ivanovic’s spectacular effort.
But Haji Wright netted the winner for the second time in three days when his effort was too strong for Max Crocombe.
“I’m very happy, we’ve had two tough games,” said Lampard. “We said that after Leicester who are a strong team who played well here and we still won.
“I think Millwall played well enough, they’re in very good form, and are a strong team who have a good idea about what they’re doing.
“They have good players, very physical and aggressive team and they made it a tough game for us but I think we deserved to win.
“We had a lot of possession in the game. We had the better chances of the game but there was an understanding that they’re always a threat and we had to deal with that.
“But I thought it was good from us, showing great, great spirit and good quality at the right times. And yeah, of course it’s a big win for us.”
Lampard also spoke about Esse, who opened his Sky Blues account following his loan move from Crystal Palace.
Lampard said: “Sometimes it’s fate isn’t it? You come through from Millwall and he’s obviously moved on. But he’s with us now and I think we started the game really well.
“The first 10 minutes of the game we were good, we were sharp, we were right on it and we got our deserved goal, and he got a deserved one.
“It’s not easy when you come in to get straight in and hit the ground running and we can see he’s got talent, that’s for sure. But if I can help him, if we can help him it’s getting that real end product.”
Millwall manager Alex Neil was left ruing the Lions’ missed chances after a promising second-half spell that saw the visitors have chances through Ivanovic and Zak Sturge.
The Scot said: “It was a game of fine margins. The game was very tight, they had their moments but I thought we had really good moments in the game.
“I thought up until the 78th minute, right before they scored, three or four of the opportunities came our way and we looked more likely to get the goal.
“Then they scored and from there we opened the whole game up. It looked a bit scrappy and a bit messy but we needed to try and force the issue.
“The game would never have got to that if we’d taken our chances beforehand because if we scored we’d have locked the game up and it would have been a different story.
“That’s this level especially at the top end when you’re playing the best teams. What tends to happen is you’re never going to dominate a game for 90 minutes.
“You’ve got to have your moments before they have theirs and you’ve got to take them, and that ultimately will ensure the flow of the game and what the result looks like.
“I think my biggest frustration is we had that, we had our moments before they had theirs and we should have put the game to bed.
“We should have scored and from there we’ve been brilliant at defending leads.”
