Stevenage and Bolton had to settle for a point apiece at Lamex Stadium in a tense Sky Bet League One game that ended 0-0.
While chances were limited in the first half, both sides did go forward.
Jamie Reid and Jasper Pattenden had the two best efforts for Stevenage but neither had the power to beat Jack Bonham.
Filip Marschall at the other end had to push away a firm Mason Burstow drive at his near post while another well-hit effort by Xavier Simons pinged off bodies in the box before being cleared.
The second half was more of the same.
Lewis Freestone thumped a chance towards goal, but off the head of Amario Cozier-Duberry and behind.
The left-back then could not turn the corner in, heading wide.
Substitute John McAtee then had two chances to hit the target. He did not with the first one but he caught the second one, only for it to fly too close to Marschall.
Chem Campbell almost got the winner after 77 minutes when his shot bobbled past Bonham, only for Sam Dalby to clear off the line.
