Offaly Pool Association rankings complete

Offaly Pool Association rankings complete

Junior Finalists - Liam Dunne and Billy Dunne.

WHAT a month of pool we’ve had.

It started off with the 1st Offaly Pool Ranking event of the year.

After 2 full days of pool we whittled our way down to the Final day on Sunday 24th August.

Some great stories throughout the tournament.

Offaly pool's up and coming hero Adam Wynne reached his first Mens Ranking tournament semi final, along the way beating some seasoned county players and eventually losing out to Philly McGrath.

It was a father and son attempting to both win their semi finals with Sean Wynne losing in the other semi final to Alan Kellly.

Alan went on to win his 1st Offaly Ranking event beating Philly in the final with some fantastic pool.

The 2nd ranking event will take place this weekend Friday 26th to Sunday 28th September.

Ladies

This year it was decided that the there will be 2 ladies events played on each ranking event. Our first 2 rankings were played on the 20th September.

The pool played throughout the day was fantastic. The winner of Event 1 was Mary Duffy who beat Mary Devine in the final. Mary continued on from where she left last year having won multiple rankings tournaments in the 24/25 season and finishing number 1 in the county.

The second event was won by Jannette Jackson who again beat Mary Devine in the final.

This was Jannette’s first ranking tournament win. Jannette represented Ireland in August in the World Pool Championships in Ennis which took place in August. Her dedication to pool over the last couple of years is showing in the quality of pool that she’s playing.

Special call out to Mary (Mammy Pool) Devine who played in both finals. Mary has been playing pool for Offaly since the association started and has been consistently at the top of the rankings. After a long day of pool it was fantastic to see such a consistently high level of play all day.

Over 50s

Our Over 50s, played on the 7th September, this was our first ever Over 50’s ranking tournament and it was a fantastic success. We had 13 entries and some of the pool played in this event was fantastic. Our finalists were Mick Egan and Trevor Sheehan with Mick beating Trevor in the final. We look forward to welcoming new players to play in these events going forward.

Juniors u18

The future of Offaly Pool is bright, the level of play at this tournament was unbelievable.

Our Juniors have been improving every year over the last few years. With no Adam Wynne available to play this weekend as he was playing in the Next Generation Ultimate pool tournament in Wigan, the door was open for someone to step up and put their name on the 1st ranking tournament trophy of the year.

8 players took part in this tournament and the quality of pool was fantastic.

The final came down to Billy Dunne v Liam Dunne with Billy Dunne coming out on top.

Another fantastic day of pool and with new players joining the juniors all the time the future is bright.

For anyone interested in trying out pool our Junior Coaching will return on 5th October from 5-7.
