Sean Adarkwa double helps Wealdstone end Southend’s unbeaten start to season

Sean Adarkwa scored twice as Wealdstone ended Southend’s unbeaten start in the Enterprise National League with a 3-2 win at Grosvenor Vale – where both managers were sent off during a chaotic second half.

The Stones, who had suffered three straight league defeats after winning their opening three games, went ahead in the 22nd minute through Dutch forward Enzio Boldewijn.

Southend, though, were back on level terms just after the half-hour mark when Bulgarian frontman Slavi Spasov slotted a low shot under Wealdstone goalkeeper Dante Baptiste to score his first goal for the Essex club.

Wealdstone got themselves in front again through a 67th-minute penalty from Adarkwa, with Shrimpers head coach Kevin Maher and Stones boss Sam Cox sent off from the sidelines during the protests after the spot-kick had been awarded by referee James Oldham.

Adarkwa then grabbed another goal from close range just three minutes later before Southend reduced the deficit via a late free-kick from Gus Scott-Morriss, but the home side held out through 12 minutes of added time.
