Substitute Ben House saw Lincoln through to the third round of the Carabao Cup with a last-gasp goal to secure a 1-0 win and knock out fellow League One side Burton.
With the game heading towards penalties, House struck with a sumptuous first-time curling effort to settle a closely-fought tie.
In a lacklustre first half Lincoln mustered a half chance after 35 minutes, but Rob Street could only guide his header over the bar as the visitors began to exert some pressure.
Charlie Webster’s rasping shot from just outside the box stung the palms of Zach Jeacock early in the second half as Albion looked to up the tempo.
Burton’s Kamil Dudek was forced into his first save of the night after 53 minutes as Street, this time with a well-struck shot, forced the Albion keeper into a smart save to his left.
Jeacock produced a better save just after the hour to keep out a Dylan Williams effort that was bound for the bottom corner.
Webster saw a curling free-kick crash off the crossbar as Albion pushed for a winner and Dudek produced a superb save to deny substitute James Collins as he ran clean through on goal inside the final 10 minutes.
