July Cup bid on Great Generation agenda

July Cup bid on Great Generation agenda

Marco Botti has a July Cup master plan for Great Generation after her second victory in the Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes.

The Holy Roman Emperor filly won the seven-furlong Group Three last season, when she was in receipt of a three-year-old allowance and did not carry a penalty.

This year she was conceding weight all round but still managed to retain her title, with the six-furlong July Cup now identified as a target and an entry made for the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes over the same trip at Royal Ascot in June.

“She’s great after the Chartwell Stakes, everything went to plan. She had her ground and she did very well under a penalty,” Botti said.

“It was really encouraging to win again and we’re now thinking about where we want to go next.

“Over seven furlongs there aren’t so many options at the moment, she’s been entered at Royal Ascot and the July Cup as well.

“We will see nearer to the time what the ground is like, I don’t think dropping back to six is going to be an issue for her because she has plenty of speed.

“The July Cup has been the plan, she’s been a Group Three winner three times and we’re trying to improve that to a Group Two or a Group One.

“The owners will obviously want to breed with her eventually, hopefully we can get a placing or a win at Group Two or Group One level, that would be great.”
