From Hannah Hampton to Aggie Beever-Jones – Chelsea’s key players this season

Chelsea have claimed a sixth successive Women’s Super League title after a 1-0 victory at Manchester United.

Here, the PA news agency looks at some of the key players who have helped the Blues become champions again in their first season under manager Sonia Bompastor.

Hannah Hampton

After being in and out of Emma Hayes’ Chelsea side in 2023-24, Hampton has been firmly established as Bompastor’s first-choice goalkeeper this term and recorded her 11th clean sheet for the campaign in the 1-0 win over United with which the title was sealed.

Also playing regularly for England, it appears the 24-year-old could go into the summer’s Euros as Sarina Wiegman’s number one ahead of Mary Earps.

Lucy Bronze

Chelsea have two players of vast top-level experience at the back in skipper Millie Bright and her long-time England team-mate Bronze, who arrived from Barcelona last summer.

As is typical, the 33-year-old right-back has shown her class both in defence and further up the field en route to adding yet more silverware to her substantial haul. The win against United was secured by her 74th-minute header.

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd

Among the multitude of potent attacking weapons Chelsea have at their disposal, Rytting Kaneryd is one that frequently catches the eye from out wide.

The Sweden international netted the only goal, a stunning strike, in the victory against Aston Villa with which the Bompastor era opened in September, and her superb volley in a brace in October’s 5-2 win over Tottenham was named the WSL’s goal of the month.

Guro Reiten

Reiten has been one of Chelsea’s most important players in recent years and the Norway midfielder has again had a fine season, in which she has scored eight league goals.

She took the WSL player of the month award after scoring in four successive games through November, which included a curling finish in a 2-0 win over Manchester City and the penalty that secured a 1-0 victory against Manchester United. Reiten also netted the only goal from the spot when Chelsea beat Arsenal in January.

Aggie Beever-Jones

Building upon her breakthrough 2023-24 in which she scored 11 WSL goals for Chelsea, 21-year-old academy product Beever-Jones has also scored eight in this campaign, and got her first England goal in early April.

Catarina Macario, Mayra Ramirez and Sandy Baltimore are some of the other players to have made notable contributions to the Blues’ league campaign in terms of goals, as well as providing a number of assists.
