Lee Evans’ second-half penalty against his former club gave Blackpool a 1-1 League One draw at Wigan, who had deservedly led through Jon Mellish’s fourth-minute goal.
Wigan got off to a flying start when Mellish’s delivery from the left wing crept in at the near post, catching Harry Tyrer out of position.
But the Seasiders came back into it and, after Wigan skipper Jason Kerr cleared off the line from CJ Hamilton, Niall Ennis raced clean through on goal.
However, Latics goalkeeper Sam Tickle stood up strong and diverted the ball over his crossbar with a leg.
Tickle was then equal to a shot from former Wigan midfielder Evans that was swerving all over the place.
And it was Evans who levelled the scores with 17 minutes to go, sending Tickle the wrong way from the penalty spot after Hamilton was felled in the box.
Tickle was then twice required to make important saves to deny Albie Morgan from distance as Blackpool finished the stronger.
