Alex Cochrane strike sends champions Birmingham past 100 points for season

Alex Cochrane’s superb long-range strike was enough to take League One champions Birmingham over the 100-point mark with a 1-0 win at Stevenage.

The game was the perfect example of a clash of styles, Birmingham wanting to play it around, but Stevenage aiming to outwork them.

Boro arguably would have been happier with their first-half showing, Jordan Roberts pulling a low shot wide of the target and then Jamie Reid unable to turn a downward header from Charlie Goode in.

Alfie May was off target for the visitors but Taylor Gardner-Hickman should have done better when presented with a chance six-yards out.

After the break, the intensity and pace of both sides picked up considerably but there was less chances than the first.

Cochrane came off the bench in the 72nd minute and just three minutes later found the net with a fine left-footed strike from outside the box following a corner.

Harvey White almost grabbed a point in the final minute of stoppage time but Ryan Allsop was there to turn it behind and earn the Blues the three points.
