Former England striker Peter Crouch announced his retirement from football at the age of 38 on this day in 2019.
The 6ft 7ins forward made his English Football League debut in 2000 with Queens Park Rangers and played for nine clubs including Liverpool, Portsmouth, Tottenham and Stoke.
During his time with Liverpool, Crouch won the FA Cup and helped them reach the 2007 Champions League final, where they lost 2-1 to AC Milan.

He scored 108 goals in 468 appearances in the Premier League, with 40 of those goals coming from headers.
Crouch was also capped 42 times for England and scored 22 goals after making his debut against Colombia in May 2005.
After spending half of the previous season with Burnley, Crouch took to Twitter to confirm his decision in a statement which read: “After a lot of deliberation this summer I have decided to retire from football.
“Our wonderful game has given me everything. I’m so thankful to everyone who helped me get there and to help me stay there for so long.
“If you told me at 17 I’d play in World Cups, get to a champions league final , win the FA Cup and get 100 Premier League goals I would have avoided you at all costs. It’s been an absolute dream come true.”
Since his retirement, Crouch has worked in the media as a pundit and podcast host.
