Millie Daly
A TALENTED female Offaly soccer player has bounced back from a bad injury to regain her place on a League of Ireland squad for the forthcoming season.
Ballinagar woman, Millie Daly has been signed for another season by Wexford Youths Football Club and they will begin their League of Ireland Premier Division campaign in March.
Then a Leaving Certificate student at Tullamore College, Daly was signed by Wexford Town Youths last season but unfortunately suffered a broken collar bone. It was her left collar bone and being left handed, the implications were immediately obvious to Millie and her parents, Brian and Margaret Daly as the Leaving Certificate was looming.
Tullamore College were very helpful as they sorted a scribe with the Department of Education at short notice and she was able to get the results she desired. Millie is now in her first year of an athletic therapy and rehabilitation course in Carlow while she has also done the recovery work to get back on the soccer playing fields.
An underage soccer international with Ireland, she competed in the U-19 league with Shelbourne before Wexford secured her. She started out as a young National School student with Killeigh Schoolboys and Girls Soccer Club, winning representative honours with the Midland league side. She competed with Athlone Town FC for two seasons before moving to Wexford.
Wexford will be hoping to challenge for league honours after finishing fourth last year. Their season opener on March 8 will be a convenient one for Millie and her family, an away trip to Athlone Town with a 7.30pm kick off.
