One of Offaly's five Olympians gets his Games underway on Wednesday, two days before the Opening Ceremony officially starts Paris 2024. 

Tullamore's Jordan Conroy is in action with the men's Rugby 7s team on Wednesday in their Pool A opener against South Africa and their second pool game against Japan.

The first match will be played at 4.30pm with the clash against Japan slated for 8pm Wednesday evening. Ireland will be hoping to advance to the latter rounds of the tournament to challenge for medals. 

Conroy has Irish and Leinster Rugby Union star Hugo Keenan among his teammates while other high-profile players lining out in the event include France's Antoine Dupont.

Offaly actually has five Olympians competing in Paris 2024, including Shane Lowry who will line up with Rory McIlroy for the golf event fresh from his sixth place finish at the Open.

The other Offaly competitors are Offaly boxer Grainne Walsh, women's rubgy 7s star Megan Burns and cyclist Megan Armitage.
