THE publication of the Rural Safety Plan 2025–2027 has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil TD for Offaly, Tony McCormack..
The Plan delivers on a key Programme for Government commitment and sets out 18 actions and 54 sub-actions to be carried out by the Gardaí, farming organisations and other members of the National Rural Safety Forum. It focuses on four areas: community safety, property crime, road safety, and animal & wildlife crime.
Speaking at the Ploughing in Screggan on Wednesday, Deputy McCormack said the strategy will have a real impact in rural areas: “Here in Offaly, people are rightly concerned about issues like farmyard and machinery thefts, speeding and dangerous driving on rural roads, and wildlife crime. This new plan brings all the key agencies together with clear, measurable actions to keep rural communities safe.
“The people of Offaly deserve to feel secure in their homes, on their farms and in their communities. This plan is a positive step in that direction.”
The Rural Safety Plan will be closely monitored through regular progress reports, and introduces a new community safety approach with Local Community Safety Partnerships to give communities a stronger voice in tackling crime.
