A fundraiser has been launched for a young college student after she collapsed at a bus stop in June.
Alison Fisher, a 21 year-old Cavan native and final year Primary School teaching student at Marino College Dublin, suffered a major seizure at the bus stop over the summer, and was rushed to hospital after collapsing.
According to the GoFundMe set up for Alison, there were "no warning signs" leading up to this awful event, and tests were performed quickly after her arrival to hospital.
The results showed that Alison had developed a brain tumour. After weeks of scans, she was transferred to Beaumont Hospital and underwent a major operation, which all came as a massive shock to Alison, her mum and family.
Since her time in hospital, Alison has been informed that her treatment now needs to be carried out in Germany very soon.
Alison's friends and family have rallied behind her, with the online fundraiser describing Alison as "an amazing young woman".
"This is something Alison is not taking lying down. Her strength and determination are what keeps herself and her mum going. She is a fighter, and her resilience is making her family prouder day by day," the fundraiser explained.
Before this sudden diagnosis, Alison was reportedly eager to go globetrotting with her friends for two months before she was due back to complete her final year of college, which now needs to be put on hold while she receives treatment.
"This is not only physically and emotionally draining but financially overwhelming for Alison and her mum," the fundraiser explained.
The GoFundMe was set up on Tuesday to help alleviate the financial burden that lies ahead, and make Alison and Majella’s journey as stress free as possible.
"Your contributions will alleviate the financial burden of Alison’s expenses in Germany and aftercare, so she can focus on recovery and healing," the fundraiser explained.
Alison is also a valued long-standing member of Harris’ SuperValu, Bailieborough, Co Cavan, who set up the fundraiser and posted a heartfelt appeal for others to donate online.
The fundraiser has already raised close to €30,000, and has a goal of raising a total of €45,000.
