Gardaí have confirmed that a motorcyclist has died after a crash between his motorcycle and a lorry on the M50 on Friday morning.
The accident caused a section of the M50 to be closed and has resulted in delays in around Dublin Airport.
Maynooth University announced that it had cancelled afternoon exams on Friday due to significant delays for students.
There was also a shortage of taxis at Dublin Airport due to traffic delays.
Gardaí at Blanchardstown are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the M50 in west Dublin on Friday, 17th May 2024.
Shortly after 10:15 am, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a crash involving a lorry and a motorcycle on the northbound carriageway of the M50 between Junction 7 (N4 Liffey Valley) and Junction 6 (N3 Castleknock).
The motorcyclist, a male in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the lorry, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital for assessment.
The crash site was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened. The local coroner has been notified, and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this crash to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the M50 at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
