RIP: Tributes pour in for pregnant woman killed after Galway car crash

A woman in her 30s who died in hospital after a car crash in Galway has been named locally.

Mother of two, Irene Lynch, died in hospital after being injured in a road traffic collision in Galway.

Ms Lynch was in the front seat passenger when the car she was travelling in crashed into a turlough near the River Corrib on Friday, March 15.

The Athlone native, who was pregnant, was taken to University Hospital Galway where she died on Monday evening.

Her sister, Marcella, paid tributes to her "baby sister" after the devastating news.

“My heart is broken beyond repair Irene my beautiful baby sister,  how does life go on without you i dont even no how its possible. 10 days we watched you lie there praying for you to be okay, but unfortunately god had other plans for you and your little baby my niece or nephew.

“If love and tears could have brought you back to us you would have come back cause you have a family that loved you so much. Mammy and Daddy are devastated

“They brought you into this world n they held your hands while u took your last breath while we all your family were there beside you.

"You're our guardian angel now and a beautiful one at that. Sleep tight and give Lauren a big kiss for me when you get to the gates of heaven. It was hardest thing I ever had to deal with losing you..

"But one day we will met you again... We all love you. I promise you that we will take care of Daniel and Isobel for you.”

Predeceased by her infant daughter Lauren and her grandparents. Deeply regretted by her heartbroken son Daniel, daughter Isobel, parents Pat and Anne, sisters Dymphna, Marcella, Marina, Naomi, brothers Pat, Stephen, and Breen, her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives as well as by many friends.
