A YOUNG man allegedly smashed windows and the glass in the front door of Tullamore garda station in an early morning incident.

It is understood that a man in his 20s has been arrested following the criminal damage incident.

The incident took place just after 8am this morning, Thursday, December 18, when the man allegedly broke the glass at the front door of Tullamore garda station with what is believed to have been a sledgehammer.

The man was detained by Gardai and is being held at Tullamore Garda station.

Anyone who may have camera footage and were in the area between 8am and 9am this morning are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
