Roscrea's Market Square was treated to a radical makeover in the last two years and a local Councillor is calling for the finishing touches on the project to be completed as soon as possible.
Roscrea based Councillor Michael Smith (FF) told the monthly meeting of the Municipal Council for the area that he feels for the large sum of money spent on the revamp, it should be completed to a higher standard before the local authority signs off on it.
“The bins aren't in and the pedestrian barriers still aren't complete”, he told the meeting.
Recently €100k was allocated to Roscrea for the implementation of a Town First Plan and Cllr. Smith said he is concerned one
project is starting before finishing the last.
“Now we're moving onto the next phase before finishing the last,” Cllr. Smith said. “Market Square is not at the standard it should be before we sign-off on it”, he said.
At the same meeting, Roscrea based Councillor Shane Lee (Ind) said that the maintenance of Main Street's surface has been highlighted by several local businesses. The surface is beginning to deteriorate in several areas and needs attention, he said.
