Appeals in Birr for donations for Ukrainian refugees

The Polish shop in Birr, Stokrotka, which is appealing to the people of the Birr area for donations for Ukrainian refugees.

A number of appeals have been made this week to the people of the Birr area to make donations to the plight of Ukrainian refugees.

The Polish shop, “Stokrota”, on Mill Street in Birr Town has said it is the drop off point for donations, and the first transportation of donations will head off to Poland this Wednesday, March 2.

If you want to make donations to the shop either drop them in personally or email the owners at Paheja@wp.pl

The shop would welcome the following essentials for babies and children: Nappies of all sizes; Formula; Non perishable baby food; Baby wipes; Baby blankets; Thermal blankets; Baby carriers.

The following essentials for women are being sought: Sanitary products; Soap; Toothpaste, toothbrushes; Shampoo; Painkillers.

The following miscellaneous items are being sought: Torches; Powerbanks; Batteries; Ear plugs; Disposable masks; Disposable gloves; Disposable tableware and cutlery; Plasters; Pet food; Bed linen; Yoga mats.

The Parents Association of Birr Mercy Primary School also said it is holding a collection in Mercy Primary on Wednesday March 2 after school.

“Please donate if you can,” the Parents Association said on its Facebook page. “Toiletries and baby items are especially important. We can do a little bit to help. Please share this post.” The post concluded with hands joined in prayer.

The school said all items must be new and include the following: Hygiene items – toothpaste, tooth brushes, sanitary towels, shower gel, etc. Baby items – nappies, wipes, sudocream, blankets, toys etc. Adult and children's clothing including underwear, hats, scarfs, socks, etc. Non-perishable food items can be included as long as they do not require cooking. Other items such as blankets, duvets, pillows, sleeping bags, dressings, plasters, disinfectant, masks.

The Parents Association will take the items to Mucklagh Community Centre.
