THE contracts were signed to award the tender for the new Water Sports Facility at Dromineer, Nenagh, Co, Tipperary, to PS Carmody Contractors Ltd recently.

This project will receive an investment of €1.2million from Fáilte Ireland through its Platforms for Growth Scheme, which specifically targets ‘platforms’ or projects that have the greatest potential to grow tourism across Ireland and strategically enhance the Irish tourism offering to meet visitor needs. It will be developed in partnership with Tipperary County Council and aims to provide a best-in-class outdoor tourism amenity to enhance the visitor experience and serve as a central hub for outdoor activities in Dromineer.

Ailtirí Architects of Clonmel are the consultants for the project.

Present at the contract-signing were Cllr Declan Burgess, Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, Cllr Séamus Morris, Leas-Chathaoirleach of Nenagh Municipal District and Cllr J.P. O’ Meara.

Cllr Burgess welcomed the award of the contract and stated “Dromineer is a very strategic location within Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands and I look forward to the enhancement of the facilities which will be of benefit in attracting tourism to the region. Lough Derg is a jewel and it is vital that the appropriate infrastructure is put in place to ensure that visitors have an enjoyable experience. I would like to thank Fáilte Ireland and all involved with this project and wish them every success with its delivery”.

Cllr Séamus Morris said he was proud as Leas-Chathaoirleach of Nenagh Municipal District to witness the signing of the contracts for the Water Sports Facility at Dromineer and he welcomed the appointment of the contractors. He looked forward to the completion of the project which was one of a number of initiatives being progressed in Dromineer.
