Age Friendly Roscrea remind people to check on neighbours and relatives

Roscrea and Tipperary are under an advisory for exceptionally cold weather from the national forecaster

Elderly woman snow warning

With temperatures set to plummet over the coning days Roscrea's Age Friendly group are reminding the community to check on elderly neighbours and relatives as the extended cold snap fast approaches.

Roscrea is included in an extreme weather advisory notice issued by national forecaster Mét Éireann today predicting exceptionally low temperatures for an extended cold snap anticipated to persist for at least a week.

"Please check in older relatives and neighbours during this cold spell", Age Friendly Roscrea said.

"Ensure they have enough fuel and food supplies to keep them warm and comfortable", the Roscrea group said.

Snow and ice warnings come into effect from Saturday afternoon (Dec 4) and weather warnings are issued for Midlands counties and the west coast - the weekend's wintery precipitation is anticipated to be followed by an extended deep cold snap with temperatures anticipated to fall to seven degrees below zero.
