The location in the centre of Carrig Village where the new Park will be created. The Park will be inspired by biodiversity principles.
Carrig Village has been awarded a grant of €176,000 for the development of a new project called the Carrig Village Recreation Park and Wildlife Haven.
Cllrs Michael O'Meara and Ger Darcy warmly welcomed the good news. Both councillors had attended a number of meetings with a local community group about the project during recent months.
Deputy Michael Lowry also welcomed the news, which was communicated to him by Minister Heather Humphreys, Minister of the Department of Rural & Community Development.
“I was delighted to get this news this week from Deputy Lowry,” said Cllr O'Meara. “I want to say well done to the committee in the village which has been pushing this project. They made an excellent submission in the grant application to Tipperary County Council. There were many submissions from across the county and they were one of only a handful which were chosen. Their next step now will be to appoint a contractor, who will create the new park beside the N52 in the centre of the village.”
The Carrig Village Recreation Park and Wildlife Haven is being funded by the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
The grant will also include the provision of a pedestrian access bridge over the river.
“This is a really worthwhile project which will add character and charm to the locality,” commented Deputy Michael Lowry. “Compliments to the local committee on their initiative and great work.”
Cllr O'Meara said the Park will be quite big and will be a biodiversity haven. “It will include wildflower areas and trees,” he said.
