THE Shannon Vermicomposting saga, which is two decades old, is very near its end, Cllr Michael O'Meara pointed out during a recent Nenagh Municipal District meeting.
“It's fantastic. Only 12% of the waste still remains at the site,” he said. “The rest has been removed to Ballaghveny Landfill.”
He praised the Council executive and the outdoor staff for their excellent work. “You have really done a very impressive job.
“However the road infrastructure in Coolross, Rathcabbin is now in a bad way. It was never designed to take all those heavy trucks. Therefore we need to include those roads in the three year roadworks programme.”
Cllr Ger Darcy pointed out that the roads around Ballaghveny Landfill are not too bad after the heavy traffic. “However the roads are a bit filthy in spots and need cleaning. Their edges are mucky.”
