A vehicle with €6,000 worth of Ecstasy was stopped at a Garda Checkpoint in Cloghan

GARDAÍ in the Birr District have seized quantities of ecstasy, cocaine and cannabis in recent weeks which were for sale and supply.
The biggest seizure happened in Cloghan on Friday September 15 when the Guards, performing a checkpoint, stopped a vehicle at 9.30 in the evening, which they searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act. During their search they found €6,000 worth of MDMA in powder form. MDMA is also known as Ecstasy. The Guards also discovered €300 worth of cannabis herb.
The male driver of the vehicle was arrested and charged with being in possession of illegal drugs for the purpose of sale and supply.
MDMA is the shortened chemical name for the synthetic psychoactive drug “3,4-methylene - dioxymeth -amphetamine”. It is one of the most commonly used substances in Ireland and is associated with night-time parties.

In a separate incident Birr Gardaí searched a house on Thursday September 7 during which they discovered cocaine and cannabis.
The search was carried out in conjunction with Offaly Drugs Unit at a house in Banagher.
“During the course of the search,” a Garda spokesperson told the Midland Tribune, “€700 worth of cocaine was seized and €280 of cannabis.
“A male was arrested and charged with being in possession of illegal drugs for the purpose of sale and supply.”
