As well as a lack of lighting and hazardous derelict buildings, the village of Ballingarry also has a wastewater issue.
Cllr Ger Darcy told the recent meeting of Nenagh Municipal District that there's a wastewater problem in Ballingarry village which is stymieing development.
“The treatment plant at Brú na Sí housing estate in the village is not working, which means that it's having to be pumped out on a weekly basis.”
A Council village told the meeting that the area of the village which the councillor was referring to has “quite poor ground conditions”. He said Uisce Eireann will need to purchase the site and upgrade it before any building work can be carried out.
Cllr Darcy said he hopes the problem will be quickly sorted out as he wants to see more development in the village. “There's a plan to build five houses there,” he remarked, “but they can't be built because of this problem.”
He pointed out that Ardcroney put in a Puraflow system in their village to sort out a similar wastewater issue, but this probably wouldn't work in Ballingarry.
