The Sheffield family home that was extensively damaged by fire on Saturday.
THE community of Shannonbridge has rallied behind a family that lost their family home in a devastating fire last weekend.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up with the aim of raising €20,000 for the family and is rapidly approaching its target.
David and Caroline Sheffield, and their two boys George and Charlie, escaped from the fire unharmed. However, their home was extensively damaged by the fire.
David is one of Shannonbridge GAA Club’s underage coaches and the club is appealing to the local community to help provide financial support to the Sheffield family through the GoFundMe fundraiser.
“As one of our underage coaches,” said the club, “David is helping to nurture the budding football skills of our next generation of players.
“The fundraiser has been set up to provide financial assistance to the family during this very difficult time. Please share this post within your groups and networks to spread the word. Let’s stand together with the Sheffields during this challenging time, proving once again the strength of the Shannonbridge spirit.”

While they were, thankfully, unharmed when their home went up in flames on Saturday, the family was in a state of shock afterwards. Now they face the difficult task of rebuilding their home and their lives. The solidarity and kindness of the local community during this terrible period is giving them some much-needed solace.
€13,245 has been raised so far by the GoFundMe campaign following 197 donations. In the comments section on the GoFundMe page one donator said, “Community is family.” Another said, “What a great community spirit from Shannonbridge.” And a third remarked, “So sorry to hear about this. Hoping you can get back on track with the help of this fundraiser.”
