ALERT: Met Eireann upgrades Weather Warnings as 'extremely cold' temperatures forecast for Ireland

Met Eireann has upgraded it Weather Warnings as 'extremely cold' temperatures are forecast for Ireland tonight. 

Met Eireann has issued a Status Orange Low Temperature/Ice warning for Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Cavan, Monaghan, Munster and Connacht.

Met Éireann is warning that it will be extremely cold with widespread severe frost, ice and lying snow.

Met Eireann is warning that there will be dangerous travelling conditions on roads and underfoot, travel disruption and delays and animal welfare issues. The warning is valid from 8pm on Tuesday until 10am on Wednesday.

According to the latest Met Eireann weather forecast, Tuesday will be a very cold day with sunny spells and scattered showers, most frequent in the west and north. Some of the showers will be wintry and there is a chance of isolated thunder and hail. Frost and ice along with some lying snow will persist in some areas all day. Highest temperatures of just 0 to 5 degrees in light to moderate northwesterly winds, fresher at times near western and northern coasts.

According to Met Eireann, it will be extremely cold and largely dry tonight though a few wintry showers will affect parts of the north and west. Lowest temperatures of -8 to -3 degrees generally, locally lower, with a severe frost and icy stretches. Light variable breezes will allow patches of freezing fog to develop.

According to www.met.ieMet Eireann, it will be bitterly cold morning on Wednesday with widespread frost and ice along with patches of freezing fog, lingering in places through the day. Otherwise, there will be sunny periods and scattered wintry showers, mainly in the north and west. However, it will be cloudier for a time near southern coasts with the chance of some patchy rain. Highest temperatures of -1 to +4 degrees with mostly light northerly breezes, more moderate near southern coasts
