UPDATE: Two people arrested in Ashling Murphy murder investigation released by gardai

A man and a woman in their 60s arrested on suspicion of impeding the Ashling Murphy murder investigation have been released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the DPP. 

A garda statement issued after their arrests on Wednesday said: “Gardaí investigating a fatal assault, which occurred in Tullamore on January 12, 2022, arrested a man and a woman, both aged in their 60s, on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 in connection with the investigation.

“Both were arrested on suspicion of offences contrary to Section 7(2) Criminal Law Act 1997 and were detained under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda Stations in the Eastern Garda Region.”

A later statement confirmed their release. Gardai said investigations are ongoing.

Ashling Murphy was killed after being attacked on the Grand Canal at Cappincur near Tullamore on January 12.

Jozef Puska of Lynally Grove, Mucklagh, Tullamore, has appeared a number of times before the courts charged with her murder.
