Offaly athletes set to inspire at National Special Olympics Games this summer

Two Offaly athletes are preparing to take part in the Special Olympics National Games this Summer. 

Tullamore duo Moira Scott and Aidan Bryant will participate in the prestigious event which is set to run from June 18-21.

The Special Olympics Ireland Summer Games stand as the largest celebration of inclusive sport in the country with 1,200 athletes competing across 25 sports. 

The main hub for the games is the Sport Ireland Campus in Blanchardstown with the official opening ceremony scheduled to take place at Tallaght Stadium.

Seasoned competitor Moira Scott will mark her third appearance at the National Games by taking part in the 200m and 500m Kayaking Sprint events 

Her commitment and determination have been evident in her training across multiple disciplines with Tullamore Special Olympics Sports Club by partaking in bowling and swimming.

Also featuring will be Tullamore's Aidan Bryant who is the youngest member of the team heading to the games.

Aidan is taking part in the 15 meter swimming kick event and his selection in this years games reflects not only his own dedication but also the bright future of emerging young athletes within the club.

His journey to the games is a testament to the encouragement, opportunity and community spirit that continues to strengthen participation at all levels.

Behind the athletes lies months of preparation, perseverance and support from their coaches Colette Sweeney and Katie Troy alongside their families and communities.

Their achievements go far beyond competition. They embody resilience, inclusion and true spirit of sport.
