John O'Grady, the new General Manager of Birr Castle Demesne.

BIRR Castle Demesne is delighted to announce the appointment of John O’Grady MIHI as its new General Manager, effective immediately.

A graduate of the prestigious Shannon College of Hotel Management, John O’Grady brings extensive experience from the hospitality industry, gained through leadership roles at several renowned properties in Ireland and internationally. His career includes notable positions at Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort, Blessington; The Gresham Hotel, Dublin; and The Landmark Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon. John has also held General Manager roles with Dalata Hotel Group and the Prem Group, further underscoring his strong operational expertise.

John’s professional journey has taken him beyond Ireland, with valuable experience working in Switzerland, the UK, and the Caribbean, broadening his perspective on delivering exceptional guest experiences and managing diverse teams.

Reflecting on his new role, John O’Grady said: “In every stone, tree, and pathway here lies a story of vision and resilience. My hope is to honour that spirit and together make Birr Castle Demesne a living legacy.”

As General Manager, John will oversee all facets of the 120-acre historic estate, including visitor services, heritage preservation, and strategic development initiatives. His leadership will be central to enhancing the demesne’s position as a premier heritage destination, fostering greater engagement with local communities and visitors from around the world.

Birr Castle Demesne, the ancestral home of the Parsons family for over 400 years, is internationally celebrated for its contributions to astronomy, engineering, and natural sciences. The estate continues to inspire through its gardens, historic structures, and commitment to scientific and cultural innovation.
