Two cyclists killed in separate accidents on roads in Ireland
Two cyclists were tragically killed in separate accidents on the road in Ireland on Friday.
A man in his 80s lost his life following an early-morning hit-and-run in Meath while a man in his 20s lost his life after being struck by a car in Carlow last night.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses amid the fatal road traffic collision, which occurred at Batterstown, Ballivor in the county on Friday morning, September 12.
Shortly after 9.59am, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision on the R156. This incident involved a cyclist and a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene.
The male cyclist, aged in his 80s, was discovered unresponsive and removed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was pronounced dead.
A cyclist in his 20s has been killed after being struck by a car on the N80 in Carlow last night.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision at Kilmeany, Co Carlow, on Friday, September 12.
The collision involving a car and a cyclist occurred on the N80 at Kilmeany at approximately 11pm.
The cyclist, a man aged in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was transferred to the mortuary in Waterford University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be arranged. No other injuries were reported.
The road has been closed between the Tinryland junction and the M9 for an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 10:45pm and 11:10pm on Friday 12th September 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
