ALERT: Road crashes causing major delays for commuters in Dublin and midlands

A section of the M50 is close while diversions are in place close to Roscommon town due to an overnight fatal accident

Commuters are facing delays around the country with lane and road closures causing significant delays. 

A number of routes approaching Dublin were experiencing delays on M3 south, M4 east and M7 east.

A crash early on Thursday morning on Dublin’s M50 is causing delays for motorists.

The accident happened just before 8am on the M50 southbound before J7 (Lucan).

It is blocking the middle and right lanes approaching the Westlink Bridge.

Emergency services arrived at the scene and were managing the situation.

Long southbound delays of 60 minutes from J4 (Ballymun) are predicted and delays northbound of 15 minutes from J9 (Red Cow) due to onlookers.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has reported a breakdown on the M50 between J12 - Firhouse and J13 - Dundrum (Southbound) at around 9.30 am this morning. 

Meanwhile, diversions remain in place close to Athlone due to an overnight fatal crash in the area. 

Gardaí have issued an alert, due to a road traffic incident on the N61 near Roscommon town, heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) are advised to divert to the N63, as the local diversions in place are not suitable for larger vehicles.

This road is expected to remain closed until the afternoon.
