Figures show how many Ukrainian refugees have been housed in Offaly

Offaly has housed 1,176 Ukrainians in short-term accommodation, according to latest figures released. 

The information from the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth were for numbers up to January 7, 2024.

The numbers in Offaly represent 2.0% of the total nationwide.

The figures in the county equate to 1,423 Ukrainains per 100,000 population. 

Kerry is the county with the most Ukrainians – with 7,292 housed there. This represents 12.4pc of the total number accommodated across all counties, or just over 4,696 per 100,000 people in the county.

Next highest is Cork which has 5,907, or 10pc of the total, followed by Donegal which has 5,259, or 8.9pc. After that, Clare (3,763) and Galway (3,776) have around 6.4pc of Ukrainian refugees living in Ireland

The counties with the lowest ­percentage of Ukrainian refugees are Longford, with 352 (0.6pc), Laois, with 462 (0.7pc), Carlow has 877 (1.5pc), Kilkenny has 908 (1.5pc) and Leitrim has 1,075 (1.5pc).

Analysis carried out by the Irish Independent at the weekend show that there is a far higher percentage of Ukrainian refugees being housed in the west and south-west of the country or what is known as the Western Seaboard.
