A fundraiser for an Offaly teenager who lost his leg in a tractor accident has almost reached its goal.
14-year-old Michael Dennedy from Kinnitty faced an unimaginable challenge after the recent tragic accident which took his limb, however he hasn't let it define him.
Michael - who was an active teenager who loved his sports and being outdoors - is determined to regain his independence and live life to the full again.
The Kinnitty and wider community has come together to support him on his journey to recovery, with €8,520 out of a €10,000 goal already raised.
The fundraiser needs just under €1,500 to reach the goal, which will help Michael access the health care, rehabilitation and future prosthetic technology he will need to regain his mobility and confidence.
According to the fundraiser (hosted on Fundrazr), the costs associated with his recovery are "significant" and any contribution big or small can make a meaningful difference.
His family is urging people to share the fundraiser with friends and family and on social networks to increase its reach and impact.
A Golf Classic is also planned at the beginning of next summer.
A statement on the fundraiser states: "With your help we can ensure that Michael’s future remains as bright as ever. Let’s come together to give him his chance to pursue his dreams whether its returning to his favourite sports, exploring new hobbies or simply enjoying the joys of teenage life once again.
Michael’s resilience is an inspiration to us all. Let’s rally around him and show him that he’s not alone on this journey. Together we can make a lasting difference on his life."
