What did the best man Tom (Andrew Dagg) do, or even say to the hotel chamber-maid Julie (Maria Maher), wonders the groom Bill (Hubert Hogan) during rehearsals for Perfect Wedding.
THIS is the first time back on stage for Rathcabbin Players after their last performance in 2020 due to the break for the Covid Pandemic, and they are sparing nothing as usual as they serve up a right good comedy in “Perfect Wedding”.
Written by Robin Hawdon, ‘Perfect Wedding’ is classed as his most popular play of all time. Banagher man Jared Madden is back at the helm directing this riotous comedy which also has a touching love story at the same time.
The play centres around a couple who are getting married, Rachel (Fiona O’Brien) and Bill (Hubert Hogan) and everything goes pear shaped when Bill, who was on his stag night the night before his wedding, wakes up in bed with a total naked stranger beside him and the perfect wedding day goes disastrously wrong, causing chaos to all concerned.
What’s more, she’s an extremely attractive girl whom, in the depths of his post stag-night hangover, the groom can’t remotely remember even having been introduced to. Worse still, during the ensuing panic to get the stranger dressed and out of the way, the bride arrives, the girl (Catherine Burke) is trapped in the bathroom, Tom the best man (Andrew Dagg) has to pretend the hidden girl is his girl-friend, while his real girl-friend has to be kept ignorant of the fact.
There’s even more comic confusion in the storyline when Julie (Maria Maher) the hotel chamber-maid, gets mistaken for everybody’s girl-friend! By the time the bride’s mother Daphne (Darina Kelly) and half the hotel staff get in on the act, the chaos reaches nuclear proportions.
Everything is very confusing and the two lads are in a right pickle trying to figure out what to do, with the hotel chamber maid escalating matters from bad to worse. Will there be a wedding? Or will there be divorce even before the ceremony takes place? You can find out by coming to the play which will run for four nights next week (February 23rd-26th).
This fast-moving and hugely entertaining comedy produces an endless series of excuses, games of hide-and-seek, lies, confusions and false confessions… every cue is spot on, every joke a winner – right up to the unexpected ending. You can expect to be left aching with laughter and certainly not a play to be missed.
Some of the Players old reliable actors will take to the stage for this comedy such as Hubert Hogan and Catherine Burke, who will be joined by relative new comers Andrew Dagg and Darina Kelly. However, new to the scene this year are sisters Fiona O’Brien and Maria Maher and they have taken to the stage like a duck to water..
The play will be staged in Rathcabbin Hall from Thursday February 23rd to Sunday February 26th. Doors open at 7.15pm curtains up at 8pm. Admission €10. It is essential to book to be sure of a seat on (087) 2605647 between 6.30pm and 8pm please. Eircode: (R42 Y188).
