Offaly tractor run launched as group hands over massive cheque to cancer support group

Tullamore Tractor run - 1

Members of the tractor run committee hand over a cheque for over €25,000 to the cancer support group

THE Tullamore Tractor Run is back again this year just after Christmas Day and was launched to wide acclaim recently at the Old Harbour Bar.

The informal launch also saw the committee hand over a cheque for more than €25,000 to Dochas, the Offaly Cancer Support Group, which was the proceeds of last year's run.

Dr Michael Haverty, Chairman of Dochas, thanked the tractor run committee and said it was the biggest fund-raiser which the work of the group was supported by.

This year's run takes place on Wednesday, December 28th with participants and supporters assembling in Market Square from 10am onwards.

By kind permission of Tony Flanagan trucks and lorries can assemble in the old Coen's Yard.

The entry fee on the day is €25 and people can register online beforehand by logging onto www.tullamoretractorrun. Vintage tractors, cars, trucks and motor cycles are also welcome to take part in the fun filled event.

Participants will depart Market Square at about 12 noon and this year a new route takes them up High St, right at Kilcruttin onto the Rahan Road, then left onto the Clara Road, left at Coolnahiley Cross, left at Ballykilmurray Cross and back into Tullamore.

An auction, back after an enforced absence due to Covid, will take place in the Old Harbour Bar later that evening.

Supporters can also purchase a tractor run 15th anniversary calendar which retails at €10.

And a Christmas hamper draw will take place on Sunday, December 18 with tickets on sale in the Bridge Centre on that date.,

Thanks are extended to the hard working committee, businesses and sponsors, the Gardai, Offaly County Council and all the volunteers who help out on the day.

Thanks also to Leavy's Centra who will provide breakfast on tractor run day.
