'Tullamore Goes Green' campaign to be launched this week

The second annual Tullamore Goes Green campaign will launch in the Bridge Centre Tullamore on Thursday, May 2 as part of a “Let’s Talk” awareness and information event organised by Offaly Minding our Mental Health and Tullamore Goes Green.

See Change Ambassador and Tullamore Goes Green founder James O’ Connor with the help of Anne Starling Tullamore & District Chamber of Commerce will be there to hand out FREE Green Ribbons to the public along with representatives from other support organisations.

The See Change Green Ribbon campaign is in its 7th year and takes place for the entire month of May. The aim of the campaign is to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues and to encourage everyone to talk, listen, and feel less alone and to seek support.

‘Offaly Minding our Mental Health,’ a group of statutory and community organisations who come together to promote and support mental health and recovery, and ‘Tullamore Goes Green’ are organising the event on Thursday.

James O’Connor of ‘Tullamore Goes Green’ said: “By organising this awareness event we hope to help create conversations about mental health and encourage people to talk to each other and also to listen in a supportive way when someone is feeling down or vulnerable."

"We hope also that having the organisations and service providers present on the day will enable people to get information on where they can seek help and support should they need it, either for themselves or for someone they are concerned about."

James and his team will distribute over 10,000 FREE Green Ribbons to local businesses and community groups throughout the coming weeks and is asking that people support the campaign by asking their team members to wear a Green Ribbon for the month of May and to post a picture on Social Media using the hashtags #GreenRibbonIRL and #TullamoreGoesGreen.

"We would like to invite everyone to join us on this Thursday, May 2 in the Bridge Centre to support the Tullamore Goes Green Campaign and to help to create ‘a society where people are more open and positive in their attitudes and behaviour towards mental health’. Please drop in for a few minutes and say hello!”

Events to celebrate the Green Ribbon Campaign are being organised throughout the month of May and will start with the “Let’s Talk” awareness and information event on May 2, 2019 in the Bridge Shopping Centre from 9.30am – 6pm.
