Broadband the key issue on doorsteps in Offaly
Fianna Fail councillor and upcoming local election candidate Eddie Fitzpatrick says broadband continues to be a huge issue within rural areas of Offaly.
He said he believes the government should provide funding to connect the rural areas that have not yet been considered for the rollout of this vital service.
Cllr Fitzpatrick went on to say that this issue has been raised with him by rural residents as he canvasses for the local elections.
"It is a concern because a lot more people now work from their own home two or three days a week," he added.
"Eir have supplied some areas with fibre broadband and this seems to be very satisfactory but in my opinion there needs to be some joined up thinking between the government and Eir to continue the rollout of this service to the areas not yet considered."
"As we all know there are a huge number of active business in rural areas and they depend on the internet service to run their business on a daily basis," Cllr Fitzpatrick concluded.
