Offaly man loses incredible three stone in just three months
An Offaly man is on cloud nine after losing an incredible three stone and two pounds in just 13 weeks.
Paul Quinn from Banagher dropped down four sizes in his waist-line in three months after joining Slimming World in April 2018. As a result of his efforts, he went down from a 38 inch waist to a 32 inch waist. He joined Slimming World to lose weight ahead of his family holiday.
Paul commented, “Like many people do, every year I’d make the same resolution to lose weight, and also like many, I’d never follow through with it. I’ve struggled with my weight, and covered my insecurities with my bubbly personality. I enjoyed socialising with my friends, however I would avoid having my photo taken. It wasn’t until I saw some pictures of myself online that I realised just how much weight I had gained. I was embarrassed and ashamed at how unhealthy I had become.”
However, this year, Paul was determined to change that, as he booked his family holiday abroad. Determined to lose weight and feel great for his holiday, Paul joined Slimming World.
“I was filled with nerves walking through the doors," he said. "It’s not easy to walk into a room full of women. Everyone automatically thinks that a weight-loss group is just for women and not for men, but I received such a warm and friendly welcome, that I soon forgot about who was in the room.
“And when I was introduced to the plan, I was so surprised by all the food that I could still eat, such as pasta, rice, potatoes and slimming world chips without feeling guilty! I got stuck in right away and started cooking meals from scratch, rather than relying on convenience foods or takeaways, I stocked up on plenty of fruit in case I got hungry between meals. I can still enjoy a treat every now and then, too.”
Paul, who’s dropped from a 2XL size shirt to a L size shirt clothing and from a 38 inch waist jeans to a 32 inch waist jeans acknowledged, “joining Slimming World was the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m much healthier and happier and I’m confident the habits I’ve discovered will stay with me forever. I had a fantastic family holiday this summer – and had no worries about my picture being taken anymore! Paul says “our Thursday evening group is fantastic, we have become a family, there is nothing but support and friendship to be made each week. Group is the place to be to get the support to set you up for the seven days ahead no matter how your week goes, find a seat and be ready to take the next seven days on.”
Paul added, “I couldn’t have lost this weight on my own, the support and encouragement we as a group receive from our Consultant Evelyn is amazing, if we are worried about anything in relation to losing weight we know we can ask Evelyn and that is so important when you are trying to lose weight. Evelyn is so supportive each week no matter what the scales may say, there is no judgement, just tonnes of support. Paul says “if you are reading this and thinking you would like to lose weight not to hold off any longer, it is the best decision I made not just for me but for my family too. We are all eating the same meals, which makes it easier to.”
Evelyn Brereton, who runs the Banagher group that Paul attends, says she couldn’t be prouder of Paul’s achievement.
“Paul has come so far since joining Slimming World. His determination to lose weight and lead a healthier life is really inspiring, both to me and all of the other members in the Banagher group. I hope he’ll inspire other people in Banagher and surrounding areas and show them that it is possible to lose weight while still enjoying all your favourite meals!”
The Banagher Slimming World group is held every Thursday at 7.30pm at The Further Education and Training Centre. For further information please contact Evelyn Brereton on 086 1954214. Evelyn also runs a group every Wednesday at 3.30pm, 5.30pm & 7.30pm at Charleville National School, Tullamore.
