Humanitarian aid announced for flood hit homeowners in Laois and Offaly
The Department of Social Protection has announced humanitarian aid for people in Laois and Offaly affected by flooding in the last 48 hours.
The flooding in past couple if days has had dreadful consequences for some people, culminating in up to 40 families being evacuated from their homes in Mountmellick.
The Department took to Twitter this morning to announce, "the Government's Humanitarian Assistance Scheme is available to assist people in Laois and Offaly whose homes are damaged by flooding and who are not in a position to meet costs for essential needs, household items and some structural repairs."
Financial support under the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme will firstly be targeted at the immediate needs of those who may have been directly impacted by the flooding, such as clothing and food.
