Farmers in Offaly will begin receiving payments under the Beef Welfare Scheme over the coming days, a Fine Gael TD has said.

Deputy John Clendennen said the Beef Welfare Scheme 2025 aims to further increase the economic efficiency of and enhance animal health on suckler farms.

“I’m delighted to see funding of €696,136 for farmers in Offaly as part of this scheme.

“The Beef Welfare Scheme 2025 supports farmers in meal feeding suckler calves before and after weaning, in vaccinating against clostridial diseases and calf pneumonia, and carrying out testing measures.

“This crucial payment will be visible in farmer’s bank accounts in the coming days.

“Across the country over €28.07 million will be issued to 24,214 participating farmers supporting 450,895 calves.

“I also want to remind farmers that if they have received a request to submit meal feeding, vaccination or testing documentation, they should return them as soon as possible

“Minister Heydon has secured a further €28 million for a continuation of this scheme in 2026 and discussions have already taken place with the farming organisations on it. This will come as a welcome relief to so many farmers across Offaly”, concluded Deputy Clendennen.
