THE Offaly GAA County Board have rearranged its planned fixtures for Sunday, August 10 to facilitate supporters wishing to travel to Croke Park for the All-Ireland intermediate camogie final between Offaly and Kerry.

Nine club hurling championship fixtures had been originally fixed for that day but they have now been moved to the Friday and the Saturday.

The list of changed fixtures includes the Senior Hurling Championship clash of Coolderry and Birr in Shinrone, which is now on Friday, August 8 and the Senior “B” Hurling Championship round 3 battle between Coolderry and Carrig-Riverstown which is also in Shinrone that Saturday.

The decision by Offaly GAA will be welcomed by its camogie counterparts – Coolderry, Birr and Carrig-Riverstown along with other clubs all have players on the Offaly camogie panel and it will allow them, club officials and mentors and supporters to travel to Croke Park if they wish.

Offaly last won the All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie Championship in 2010 and the Camogie Board asked Offaly GAA to switch club fixtures to avoid a clash. They were disappointed when their request was rejected, though the times were staggered to allow people to fit in games if they wished to go to that bother.

On this occasion, however, Offaly GAA have been able to make a pro-active gesture while the absence of fixtures that Sunday will be welcomed by other supporters as the hugely popular Tullamore Agricultural Show is on.
