A popular Laois pub is defying the change of law and sticking with religious tradition to stay closed this Good Friday, April 18.
Moloney's Gaelic Bar in Mountmellick has been a family run pub for over 100 years, now run by John Edward Moloney.
It has never opened on Good Friday, despite the lifting of the ban by the Government back in 2018.
He announced the closure again for 2025.
"In keeping with tradition we will be keeping our doors closed this Good Friday," the proprietor said.
Last year, John Edward spoke to the Leinster Express / Laois Live to say he gets support from customers.
“I have a lot of messages from people I don’t know saying, fair play to you for staying closed,” he had revealed.
The son of former Fianna Fail Junior Minister, John Moloney, John Edward has run the pub on his own for the past 13 years, investing to expand it into a music venue.
In May, it will host a very special charity music fundraiser by a local family.
