An Offaly community is mourning the loss of a "gentleman and genuine friend", J.J. Buckley, following his death last week.
J.J. Buckley of Oughter, Rahan, Tullamore, and formerly of Pullough, Offaly, passed peacefully at home with his loving family on Thursday, February 13.
He was late of Bord na Móna and was predeceased by his beloved wife Bridget, son Cyril, granddaughter Shannen, parents Elizabeth and Thomas, and sister Geraldine.
J.J. will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his loving family, daughters, Yasmine, Charlene, Celine, Avril, Sandra and Liz, sons, Trevor, Aidan, John, Tony, Richie and Tom, loving partner Mary, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.
Many have paid tribute to J.J.'s family online, sharing their fond memories and admiration for him as well as expressing their sympathies with his family.
One tribute on RIP.ie read: "Sincere condolences to the Buckley family on the death of your dad JJ, a gentleman and genuine friend. May his gentle soul rest peacefully in the arms of the good Lord. May all of you be comforted in the knowledge that his was a life well lived.”
Another friend wrote: “Deepest sympathy to the Buckley family and to all friends of JJ at this very sad time, it was always a pleasure to meet JJ when we both worked in Boora, he always had such a great smile.”
Another mourner said: "My deepest sympathy to Trevor and to all of JJ's family. One of the nicest, kind men you could be around. He will be missed by all of his lovely family. Thinking of all of ye at this really hard time. May his gentle soul rest in peace.”
J.J.’s Funeral Mass took place on Saturday, February 15t at St. Mary's Church, Pullough and he was interned in Boher Cemetery.
